Houla's Exciting Podengo's & Pequeno's, Kennels are located just north of Ft. Worth, Texas in the small town of Azle/Reno, Parker Co. I have been raising dogs and other livestock for many years. At current time the only animals I have are my Portuguese Podengo Medio, Portuguese Podengo Pequeno's and 1 Parson. Most of my dogs live in the house and sleep in bed with me every night. In the past I have raised Ostrich, Emu, Rhea, Goats, Horses and many other critters.

While some people in the US think it's a good idea to incest breed and limit the gene pool which often times magnifies mutations and fatal genetic flaws ....WE DO NOT!
Every breeding we plan is to achieve long term results which maintain the health, vigor and vitality of the breed. We do not believe in sacrificing these vital components for the selfish desire of winning regardless of the cost to the breed.

My Terriers are HER'S, Houlihan's Exciting Russells, the Podengos are Houla's. A friend that I got my first show beagle from was always calling me Houla, so I decided to use that as the kennel name. I only have a few litters a year and try and breed the best possible dogs to improve on my bloodlines. All Terriers and Podengos I use for breeding have qualities that I am looking for to make a great show dog and a great family pet. Several of the Podengo Pequenos live with us in the house full time and the others are given their time inside too. I feel that it is important that all dogs are given lots of love and affection to keep them well rounded. I also take the dogs on walks in the neighborhood to keep them well socialized. When puppies are due they are born in my extra large bathroom or bedroom and grow up in the house where they can be looked at everyday and they can get used to all the noise of a family and household. All of my dogs, whether they become a show dog or a family's beloved pet will have plenty of opportunities for socialization. I even have the neighbors bring their children over to play with the pups so they get to know children.

I support the recognition of the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno into AKC and will do all that I can to support that effort. I also register my dogs in the United Kennel Club, UKC. The UKC is one of the oldest dog registries in the country. Please check the www.akc.org and www.ukc.com for full standards of all dogs.
Being able to show my dogs in both AKC and UKC has been a lot of fun. The UKC shows are more laid back and informal then the AKC shows. Each registry has something to offer everyone who likes to show or be envolved in events. But please make sure the dog you get is regerstered with AKC so you really know what you are getting.

I believe that the Podengo Pequeno's can be a dog that shows, hunts and a dog that can do just about anything a family wants it to do. Every dogs need to know basic obedience to be a great family member and to keep him safe, so make sure you take your dog to school so you will learn along with your dog. An un-trained dog is like an un-trained child, both will get board and get them selves into trouble. But unlike the child the dog usually ends up on the end of a chain and ignored or dumped on some lonely road and left to fend for himself. You know what can happen then....
All puppies that are sold as pets are on a spay and neutering contracts. I believe all pets should be neutered by the time they are 6 months old. We all must be responsible pet owners and keep the pet population down. So if you are looking for a new family member or a show prospect please give me a call or e-mail me. I will be happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability. I want you and your new puppy to be a good match.
